Meet the mobile workers
"Mobile workers" are made up of people who use a mobile device like a smartphone or a laptop for work-related purposes. They are usually in the 35 to 45 year age group.
In fact, their median age is no more than 46 while the average age of social networking users is about 38. So, chances are that your "hot and happening" Facebook friend or Twitter follower is probably about that age and isn't all that hot or happening either!
However, mobile workers have key demographics and usage patterns. For example, they are less likely to follow their company dictates and use standard issue devices for work or to access the Internet. They want to use their own personal devices for both, work and pleasure. In fact, they prefer to mix business and pleasure and use the same devices for both purposes.
Laptops: Dying Device
This breed prefers smarter tablets instead of laptops and they turn up their noses at antiquated desktops. However, advanced technology users prefer using a desktop since it can be upgraded bit by bit; however, such systems are usually coupled with either an iPad or another tablet or smartphone that can be lugged around from one place to another.
27.4 percent of the 1,100 mobile workers polled by "iPass" believe that, in the very near future, laptops will be replaced completely by tablets like the iPad or a "smarter"phone, if you will.
Get this: almost half or 43.5 percent of the mobile workers who were polled said that they prefer to leave their bulky and heavy laptops at home and they like to carry a lighter and neater smartphone or tablet around with them when they are not at home or in the office.
69 percent of mobile workers use a smart phone to fulfil their professional duties which means that mobile devices will increasingly become the preferred and primary work-related gadget.
These mobile gadgets are not just used for messaging or for social networking; they are used instead of computers and desktops. This is why these people are buying Apple's iOS and Google's Android since both have apps that allow them to work more efficiently.
42.4 percent of mobile workers have bought iPhones while only 23.8 percent have purchased Android phones and 19 percent use BlackBerry. Needless to add, Nokia and Windows Mobile devices are rapidly losing popularity.
