60th birthday gifts
My father is turning 60 in a few months. He isn't taking it too well and has started to notice more and more gray hairs protruding from his scalp. His body has more aches and pains nowadays too. He's actually dreading his birthday this year, not that I blame him. Our family has decided to throw him a surprise birthday party and make a big celebration out of it. We're having it catered and holding it in a hotel's conference room. Amazingly, it isn't costing us more than $300 for everything. I have racked my brain trying to come up with some ideas for 60th birthday gifts that won't be insulting to him. I'm hoping that the guests will not turn this into some gag gift evening that will leave him feeling even more depressed than he already is.
I haven't found too much on games and ideas for a 60th birthday party. I don't want it to be boring, but really - what can you do at a party when most of the guests are older and classified as boring and stuffy? I don't want people bringing him 60th birthday gifts that are based on the age. Of course, the party shouldn't be about bringing him gifts. It should be a celebration of the milestone he's reached. Giving him 60th birthday gifts that are all gag items isn't about celebrating, that's about teasing and reminding him of all of the gray hairs he's noticing.
I have found some really great 60th birthday gifts that I may look into getting him. I found a really nice gift basket that has items from the year of his birth. It has a CD with songs that were popular that year, a newspaper headline page, coins with the year, and some other items. It will cost almost $100, but I think that compared to some of the other 60th birthday gifts that I have found, it will be a great choice and something that he will appreciate. I also have considered putting together a nice photo album for him. I know that he doesn't have many of his childhood photos all in one place. They are scattered around the house, stored in some old boxes, at his mother's house, etc. A friend of mine does a wonderful job of scrapbooking, so I was thinking of asking her to help me decorate the cover of the album and perhaps some of the photos on the inside. I think that might make an incredibly meaningful 60th birthday gift.
I suppose I'll just have to cross my fingers and hope that people decide to bring some tasteful 60th birthday gifts and that the party is a huge success. Hopefully, it is the start of a new milestone and journey for him.

18th Birthday
Why is it that every kid wants to grow up so fast? This is an enigma to me. After all, you only get to be a child once. It commonly lasts for approximately 18 years and then it's "real world" time. Now, just to be clear, 18 years is short. It will fly by quickly. The last thing on your mind should be hurrying it along. Once you have that 18th birthday party, you're doomed to adulthood for the rest of your life. Basically what I'm getting at is, DON'T wish your life away. Trust me on this one. The early years are EASY!
Have you had your 18th birthday celebration yet? A lot of teenagers and parents like to go all out with these ones. It's not only a celebration of making it to adulthood, but it's also a celebration for the folks, because they've been waiting so long to get you out of the house. Okay, that's just a joke. Chances are you may stay with them clear through college as well. It's not like the "old days" anymore, where the 18 year old moves out after their senior year. Kids like to stick around the home-front. It's a heck of a lot cheaper than dealing with rent and food bills during the college years. Anyone who's been there knows exactly what i mean.
It may have just been me, but I found the whole 18th birthday party a bit frightening. Suddenly everyone expects you to act and be grown-up. Well I have to admit, on my 18th birthday I certainly didn't feel like an adult yet. This feeling actually didn't come until I was about 23. Who knows? Maybe I was a late bloomer. Regardless, 18 is what we consider the beginning of adulthood in America. Other countries may view this issue differently, but we like to be clear about it over here. 18 is when you're able to date who you please. 18 is when you're able to vote, and 18 is when you're able to get a hotel room on your own. For the most part, that 18th birthday symbolizes adulthood. But, we parents can hardly believe that our fresh high school graduates are adults yet. Okay, one thing I will tell you is to go all out for your 18th birthday celebration. Think cakes, friends, college applications, no more curfews, and a lot of relaxing. You've made it through the awkward years.

5 Gallon water bottle
Who's up for a nice refreshing glass of H2O? That's right; toss those lattes, soft drinks and syrupy beverages out the window and gulp down the good stuff. Why, you may ask? It's simple! Water is our life source. It's the fluid our bodies need to function and stay alive. Our cells are filled with it. So, I guess the big question remains. How much water do you consume in an average day? You should be chugging 6-8 cups. Coffee, soft drinks and beer don't count. In fact, they actually require you to consume more. The salt, sugar and caffeine steal the water from your muscles and billions of cells. You need to stay hydrated at all times. Maybe a 5 gallon water bottle would be of some help. Got one in your home or business?
My daughter always loves the dentist's office. It's funny to hear that, I know. No children typically enjoy visiting the dentist. However, my little girl finds it interesting and fun. Not only does she always receive a small toy, but she loves the 5 gallon water bottle in the waiting area. It's bizarre how something so simple can entertain a child. I'm just glad she drinks so much water. It's great for her growing body and mind. This goes the same for every living human being. We all need a certain amount of water each day. Millions of Americans walk around dehydrated. I know that sounds ridiculous, but it's true. They live on sugary soft drinks and coffee. These are both terrible for your health. Not to mention the nasty effect they have on your pearly whites. These drinks pull water off of your body, as opposed to restoring water to muscle tissue. Of course this has an effect on your overall health. So pull those soft drinks out of your refrigerator and replace them with a 5 gallon water bottle. These are quite convenient. You can simply flip a lever and enjoy some H2O.
If you have children, installing a 5 gallon water bottle in your kitchen is a wonderful idea. Don't give them the option of soft drinks. Make it a special occasion thing; like once a week or so. I do this with my daughter and she drinks water and milk all the time. It doesn't bother here one bit, because it's what she's used to. Get on the H2O kick and live well!

What Not to Say When Your Loved One Is Upset
Imagine that the person that you love is upset about something -- her job, his health, her feelings about the relationship. Let's say she is worried about her health, worried that she might have some terrible illness -- and that even if you think she is going to be OK, you want to comfort her, make her feel better. What are the worst ways and best ways of talking? What should you say, and what should you avoid saying?
Let me give you a hint. The most important thing in talking to someone who is upset is to communicate that 1) you understand they are upset, 2) you care about how they feel, and 3) you respect their right to have their feelings.
What Not To Say
Let's start with the biggest mistakes in talking with your partner. For convenience, I've broken them down into six problematic styles:
So, what should you say?
Hint: Your partner wants to feel that 1) you understand that they are upset, 2) you care about how they feel, and 3) you respect their right to have their feelings.
Consider some of the following. Would you like to hear any of this when you are upset?
Let me give you a hint. The most important thing in talking to someone who is upset is to communicate that 1) you understand they are upset, 2) you care about how they feel, and 3) you respect their right to have their feelings.
What Not To Say
Let's start with the biggest mistakes in talking with your partner. For convenience, I've broken them down into six problematic styles:
- Minimizing. This is the style where you treat your partner's concerns as trivial: "It's nothing. Why are you making a big deal out of it?" You are trying to tell them that their feelings are not related to anything real or important. So, the message they get is, "My feelings don't matter to you."
- Rationalizing. You treat your partner's concerns as evidence of their irrational and distorted thinking. You try to argue away their concerns. This is a specific kind of minimization, and it sends the same negative message: "Your feelings are based on nothing real. Get over it."
- Competitive complaining. In this little game you don't want your partner to "win" by being the one with the biggest complaints. So you start bringing up your own: "You think that's bad? I think I might lose my job!" Again, your partner feels there is no room for her feelings. You matter more.
- Fixing. If your partner has unpleasant feelings, you jump in to try to solve all the problems. Laying out your well-thought-out plan, you get frustrated when she doesn't buy into your solutions. This makes her feel less understood and she thinks, at times, that you are patronizing.
- Defending. In this scenario you treat your partner's emotions as a personal attack on you. If he is upset, you feel that you are to blame, so you turn it into a trial and start defending yourself. This goes nowhere; you get more angry and dismiss his feelings.
- Stonewalling. In this case, you just withdraw. Feeling frustrated listening to her feelings, you withdraw, become silent and sullen and may leave the room. Now she is all alone, feeling abandoned.
So, what should you say?
Hint: Your partner wants to feel that 1) you understand that they are upset, 2) you care about how they feel, and 3) you respect their right to have their feelings.
Consider some of the following. Would you like to hear any of this when you are upset?
- "I know it must be hard for you feeling this way."
- "I can see that it makes sense that you would feel down, given the way that you are seeing things."
- "A lot of times you may feel that people don't understand how hard it is for you."
- "You must be thinking that this really down feeling is going to last a long time. It must be hard to feel that way."
- "I want you to know that I am always here for you."
- "I don't want to sound like I don't want to hear about your feelings. I do. But if there is anything that I can do to help you feel better, please let me know. Your feelings are really important to me."
- Help make sense of feelings. Tell your partner how you understand that her emotions make sense given what has happened and how she is thinking. "Others have these feelings." "Your feelings make sense given the way you are looking at things." "You are not alone."
- Expand the range of feelings. Help your partner understand that there are many feelings -- not just the current one. Feelings come and go, there are mixed feelings, and feelings vary in intensity. "You have so many different emotions -- some feel positive and some seem negative." "I know you are feeling sad, but are there other feelings that you are having as well?" "Are you having mixed feelings?"
- Reduce shame and guilt. Help your partner understand that feelings are not a sign of being weak, but rather a sign of being human. "We all have difficult feelings at times. Your emotions are a sign that you feel things intensely, because things matter to you. You are most human when you have your feelings."
- Accept your partner's pain. When you love someone, it's natural that you want to jump in and make that person feel better. Sometimes that can be helpful, but at other times it may convey the message that your partner's pain is too much for you to hear. You can communicate acceptance by saying, "I know that you are having a hard time, and I accept that you will not always feel upbeat." Acceptance and validation go hand and hand.
- Link emotions to higher values. Sometimes your emotions can reflect the things you value -- competence, love, belonging or responsibility. You can support your partner emotionally by saying, "I know that these things bother you because you truly value them. Things matter to you."
Five signs you're in the wrong job
Most of us spend a significant proportion of our waking hours at work, so no one wants to be stuck in an uninspiring or stressful role. While even the most satisfied employee can have an off day, it may be heartening to know that 48% of Brits describe themselves as fulfilled at work and almost two thirds have had a job that they genuinely loved at some point in their lives.
However, that still leaves over half the population who aren't happy with their professional situation.
It's unlikely that any job will be 100% perfect, but if you live for the weekends and then spend Sunday in dreaded anticipation of the coming week then now might be the time to look for a more rewarding position. The main consideration is whether your current level of dissatisfaction is the result of temporary circumstances -- either of a personal nature or within your organisation -- or a sign of deeper problems that can only be fixed by a fresh start in a new company.
If you're still unsure whether it's better to stay put or jump ship then the check list below might come in handy -- if you find yourself nodding in recognition of three or more of these points then it could be time for a change:
1) The 80-20 rule applies for all the wrong reasons
The 80-20 principle was introduced as an economic theory in the early 20th century and has since been applied to many areas of life, such as diet. Nowadays it's an effective way to assess professional satisfaction, with the aim that you should be reasonably happy about 80% of the time you're at work. If the balance shifts and you spend most of your time feeling dissatisfied or frustrated then it's a clear indication that something is inherently wrong and major change is required.
2) You haven't had a pay rise in years
There are many factors to consider when assessing happiness at work - some of which are hard to measure -- but there's no doubting that money is a key issue and it's normal to expect your salary to increase over time.
The recent economic climate has forced numerous organisations to freeze pay rises and promotions until their financial situation improves. However, Home Learning College research shows that 10% of workers haven't had a pay rise in the past five years -- long before the recession caused companies to tighten the purse strings.
If this is ringing any bells then the question is whether your company is simply unable or unwilling to address the situation or whether your performance is lacking in some area. Either way, it's time to face the up to the problem and either fight for a pay rise or move into a new line of work that's better suited to your personality and skills.
3) The thought of promotion fills you with dread
Increasing responsibility is another sign of development and success at work, and many people are stimulated by the challenge of progressing to the next level in their career. However, if you're feeling bogged down and stressed by your current workload, or as though you're a round peg in a square hole, then the thought of additional accountability is sure to leave you cold. If this lack of desire for change is due to satisfaction with your current circumstances then there is no law that you need to strive for more seniority. When combined with a sense of inertia or feeling trapped in the wrong role then it's a warning signal that something isn't right.
4) Your work never excites or interests you
Money and promotions aside, most people prefer to be stimulated at work and boredom is often cited as a key reason for leaving a job. Doing the same role, day after day for several years, can become extremely tedious and leave you feeling jaded and in need of a new focus.
Consider when you last learnt something new at work: if you can't remember then it's time to get the old grey matter buzzing again. A change can be as good as a rest, but it's not always necessary to turn your life upside down to enjoy these benefits. Another option is to take up a vocational course that will deliver practical skills and may enhance your existing role or set you off on a whole new career path.
5) Conversations about work are mostly negative
It's completely normal to gripe about work occasionally. After all, there is no other social situation where you are obliged to spend a set amount of hours in the company of people you may not always like, doing things you may not always agree with. While the odd moan can be a healthy outlet for such frustrations these shouldn't dominate your conversations, either with friends or colleagues.
If you've passed that tipping point and rarely have a good word to say about work then your unhappiness at work has clearly spread into other areas of your life. Instead of wasting valuable energy complaining about things you probably can't change, why not re-focus that time on doing something productive, such as gaining new skills or hunting for a more suitable role. Not only will you feel happier, but those closest to you will feel relieved at having a new topic for discussion
Eight secrets to feeling happy
A new book, Still 25 Inside by Lindsey Agness, reveals the eight secrets to feeling happy, healthy and fulfilled - whatever your age. Liz Frost takes a sneak peak.
Imagine feeling like you are 25-years-old - full of vitality, vigour and enthusiasm - for life. Author of Still 25 Inside, Lindsey Agness says, "Our Attitudes are made up of what we believe about ourselves and what's important to us. Feeling good and enjoying life is a mindset that all of us can develop. You can make this choice at an emotional level (in terms of how you feel about yourself) and at a psychological level (in the way that you behave).
"Your chronological age is only a number. What really makes the difference is a positive state of mind - living a life that you're passionate about, and having fun. When you achieve these goals, a magical thing happens. You look and feel good, no matter what the year of your birth."
In the book, Lindsay uses a mixture of no-nonsense advice, practical exercises and real life case studies to explore eight key 'Attitudes' that will help you feel young again. We asked her to give us a quick rundown...
Live your life on purpose
"The first Attitude, 'I live my life on purpose', is all about giving yourself permission to discover what you want to be, do or have with the rest of your life. It's important for each of us to have goals, but we often forget (or fail) to put aside the time to set them. It could be that you would like to travel to far-flung shores, learn a new sport, language or skill, meet new friends, volunteer, start up a website or a book club, or anything else you set your mind to. Or it could be something more drastic, like changing your relationship, career or where you live. This Attitude will help you focus on what you would like to achieve, and show you how to identify what you really want to change in your life."
Create what you want (from the inside out)
"The mind and body are inextricably connected, so when we change on the inside, we automatically change on the outside. So often we depend on external 'things' to make us feel better. For example, when we have felt low or unhappy in the past we may have undertaken some 'retail therapy' to make us feel better. However, the feelings of pleasure that this type of thing encourages are normally short-lived. Why? Because we are relying on something 'external' to change the way we feel inside. Because we have tackled the symptom and not the root cause of why we felt bad in the first place. As a result, the effect is always temporary. In contrast, change on the inside is permanent because it's something over which you can take responsibility and control. If there's something you want to achieve, don't let the desire to make that first step 'perfect' hold you back, be prepared to make mistakes along the way and learn from them.'
Know who you are
This Attitude is all about finding out what you are passionate about, because doing so goes a long way towards helping you discover your sense of self - and thereby increasing your confidence and self-esteem. When we allow ourselves to discover what we are passionate about, we experience the triumph of love and hope over fear. Remember the last time you felt real passion? That was the real you. If it was more than a month ago, you've got some work to do!
As a first step, keep a diary of your key activities. For example, record how much time you spend on each of the following: quality time with your family, quality time with your partner, leisure activities, work, housework, friends, fitness, and focused time for yourself. Then ask yourself if you are happy with the results. What do they say about you at the moment? Do they begin to define who you are in a way that you'd like to be defined? Is your focus where it ought to be? And if it isn't, which areas would you like to devote more or less of your time to? Set yourself some goals and begin to rebalance your time."
Be true to yourself
"In order to be true to ourselves, we need to discover what our values are. Our values are instilled in us at an early age, most often before the age of seven. At this age our surroundings are imprinted upon us with little of our own filtering. For example, our values will be influenced by the values of our parents, close family, environment, school, and everything and everyone else that touches our lives.
"Our values determine the way we think and how we behave. If you want to find out what your values are, then ask yourself what was important to those around you when you were growing up. It's likely that you have adopted many of their values. However, before you start to panic at the thought of having adopted your parents' values, it's also important to understand that our values change and can be changed.
"If you are a parent, I guarantee that on the day your first child was born your values will have changed. This happens unconsciously. Other times in our lives when our values are likely to change include marriage, divorce, bereavement, redundancy, retirement, illness and so on. Discover your values and be true to them and you will feel instantly better about your life."
Believe you are good enough
"This Attitude explores how to change limiting beliefs or fixed ideas that we have about ourselves. Everyone has them; the good news is they can be changed! Our beliefs are views or ideas we have about ourselves, other people and situations that we hold to be true. Like our values, our beliefs are formed during the imprint period, before the age of seven.
"We collect beliefs from those closest to us at that time, such as parents, teachers, close family and any other important people in our lives. The most important thing to understand about beliefs is that they are generalisations that we create from life experiences. Most of us do not consciously decide what we believe. Furthermore, once we have a belief we forget that it can be changed, and it becomes our reality. We rarely challenge our long-held beliefs and they become a filter through which we sieve all of our life's expectations and experience.
"So, if you don't believe you're good enough, then you'll filter all your experiences through that belief until you only notice the times this is true, rather than noticing all the times you were successful or even more than good enough. The bottom line? Believe that you are good enough and you will be."
Like yourself
"Believe it or not, the key to learning to respect yourself and feeling in harmony with your body is healthy eating. However, in order to eat healthily, it is important to create the mindset necessary for healthy eating. Let's face it - we women have an ongoing affair with food. We love it and we hate it. We starve ourselves and then we binge to make ourselves feel better. We go on crash diets and then we eat to suppress negative feelings in our lives. We equate it with love, yet we often simply feed others instead of telling them how much we love them.
"So, how do we create the right mindset to look after and respect our bodies? Firstly, we need to reframe the way we see our bodies. Instead of seeing them as less than perfect, or even ugly, it's essential to see them as the means through which we will achieve our life's purpose. We need to treat our bodies with love and respect, and regard food and meals as a way of providing them with the nourishment they require to support us on our journey.
"Any self-criticism will leave our bodies struggling to support us to be the best we can be. We must be ready to praise ourselves, and start being kind about every part of our bodies, knowing that any degrading thoughts will leave our bodies struggling. Our bodies give us strength to achieve our goals and, in return, we need to truly love and respect them for the amazing tools that they are."
Take time for yourself
"This Attitude is all about time. Do you embrace time as your friend or your enemy? Are you someone who often says, 'I don't have time for that'? If you are someone who experiences time as a scarce commodity, of which there is never enough, then you are creating a completely different personal reality from someone who perceives that they have all the time in the world.
"Maybe you have even experienced some of the symptoms of stress such as breathlessness, panic attacks and high blood pressure. Deepak Chopra, theworld-famous Indian medical doctor and author, wrote of an Indian master, who explained his remarkably youthful appearance thus: 'Most people spend their lives either in the past or the future, but my life is supremely concentrated in the present.' This is because those who live in the past often suffer from guilt, and those who worry about the future often suffer from anxiety. However, if you live in the present you can focus on enjoying the moment, whatever you are doing. This has a more relaxing impact on the body."
Be certain of your success
"What if we could predict that everything we programmed into your future was going to happen, just as everything in the past has already happened? In other words, what if you could be as sure of the future as you are of the past? In this Attitude I use a Time Line Therapy TM - a process that helps you let go of negative emotions from the past, let go of limiting decisions you made in the past and create your future the way you want it. With Time Line Therapy TM you can decide what is going to happen and when. This process involves using your imagination to create a compelling future that is inspirational. It is important that the goals you put into your future motivate you now, because this is what will move you to take action and make your goal a reality."
The upshot?
"Still 25 Inside is intended to make you probe deeper into who you really are and what you want for yourself. The way to transform our lives is to learn to see ourselves for who we really are, and let our true selves flourish and grow. By discovering ourselves and reaching our own potential, we also give the greatest gift to everyone around us - our children, our families and the world at large. We become a role model for others to follow, as they see in us what is possible for them. To achieve this we need to learn to suppress our own doubts and excuses so that our true nature can shine through."
Whole Sale straw hats
Craft projects come in many shapes and forms. There are a ton of ideas that you can apply to a single object. When I accidentally ordered a lot of wholesale straw hats I decided that I would be better off putting the items to good use rather than returning them. Following are some great ideas for wholesale straw hats that you can use for just about any occasion.
Since I was about to host a tea party for about 25 women I figured that having a hat theme would be wonderful. The wholesale straw hats were the perfect fit for this fundraiser and I had some great ideas for putting the items to good use. All I needed was some artificial flowers and some ribbon and the project was under way.
Decorating the wholesale straw hats was a breeze and I even put a hook in each one so that the recipient could hang the object as a decorative piece. I made sure to use different flowers and ribbons in order to suit different tastes. The wholesale straw hats were used as door prizes but each contained an extra special prize.
We sold raffle tickets during the tea party and the winner of each raffle chose one of the decorated wholesale straw hats to keep. When she looked inside her prize she found a nice surprise. Some of the prizes were simple trinkets and others were substantial gifts of appreciation.
After the success of the fundraiser tea party, I decided that I should look into other ways to use wholesale straw hats. My daughter’s tenth birthday was the next event that called for a crafty move. The girls were a little restless the prior year since her birthday falls in the heart of winter.
Instead of just sitting around I found a great craft that uses the wholesale straw hats as the foundation. My daughter loves animals and we bought craft items that the girls could use to create great animal faces out of the wholesale straw hats. The time flew by and the girls were well entertained.
I was so happy with my experiences with the wholesale straw hats that I figured that I had better order more. I know that there is going to be an occasion that will call for these useful items in the near future. There is a bridal shower that I am going to host and I think that summertime events might call for wholesale straw hats this year as well.

Wicker Storage Baskets
There are so many things that you can do with wicker storage baskets. These handy items are not only great organizational tools they are attractive as well. Wicker storage baskets come in a variety of colors and styles. Finding a set to suit your décor is simple.
You can find wicker storage baskets in just about any department store but I like to check out my local arts and crafts stores first. Sometimes you can find great deals on this kind of product in stores that stock items like baskets and containers for decorative projects around the home.
I also like to shop online for these kinds of items because the selection is endless when using the Internet. I like a lot of options and when it comes to wicker storage baskets there are plenty of choices to make. Following are some different styles that may spark some interest.
The stair wicker storage baskets are cleverly designed to sit comfortably on your steps. The design makes the item appear as if it is a decorative feature. However, you can fill this container with nearly anything that has to be taken up the steps.
Instead of piling objects right in plain view you can collect them in a handy wicker storage basket for your next trip up the steps. The stair design is simple. The basket is actually shaped like a step so it rests perfectly on the stairs without wobbling or toppling over. A simple handle on top of the container makes it easy to move.
The main purpose of wicker storage baskets is to keep items organized in an attractive way. Some of the containers have lids that help to conceal items like office supplies and art supplies. You need to keep these things handy but also out of sight if at all possible. The wicker storage baskets that have lids make great camouflage and you always know where your things are.
Some of the containers have liners that add a little fabric. I love the look of brown baskets with eggshell colored liners. I liked the look so much that I decided to buy some wicker storage baskets for my daughter’s room. She fills them with toys and her room is a snap to clean.
I chose white wicker storage baskets with pink and white gingham lining. These useful containers add such great texture and color to the room that I bought matching gingham curtains to go with them. You know that you have found a great product when you begin to decorate around it.

Wood Burning Stoves
One thing I love about heating systems now days is the variety. It's great how we can choose from old school and contemporary methods. I'm not going to lie though. I absolutely prefer wood burning stoves and fireplaces over the gas methods. I think many people get the wrong idea about these heating sources. They tend to picture a wood stove in some old western movie that a few cowboys sit next to in order to warm their hands. Let me tell you, wood burning stoves have come a long ways. They are not simply for aesthetic purposes. In fact, they can heat your home just as well as forced gas. However, the costs on these two different methods are not comparable. Are you ready to learn the difference?
What did it cost you last winter to heat your home? Did it run you 1000 or 2000 dollars? Heck, it may have even cost you more. So much depends on the size of your home and the location you reside in. Obviously a 3500 square foot home is going to cost you more than a 1300 square foot home. There is more space to heat. And clearly you're going to need more heat in Maine than you'll require in South Carolina. The winters are much harsher and colder up north. If you typically use natural gas to heat your home, then I'll bet that it costs you a pretty penny. Gas is not cheap, and the prices are going up this winter, not down. Wood on the other hand is not that expensive. I just had a cord of it dropped off at my home and it ran me 140 dollars. This is fuel for the wood burning stoves and fire places. Fuel that will cost you much less in the long run. In a cold state you could probably heat your home for the entire winter with three cords of wood. Have you figured out the total cost yet? However, there is one catch. You need to purchase one of the contemporary wood burning stoves. These are highly efficient. I'm talking about heating 90 percent of your home by just burning wood. The central heating in your house can be a back-up.
It's rather easy to get the skinny on what wood will cost you in your area. Maybe one of the new-age wood burning stoves is exactly what you need to have installed for this winter. Get online and see what it would cost to have a cord of wood delivered to your home. I truly think you will love this form of natural heat.

Window Bird Feeders
There are many stages that we go through in our lives that call for adjustments. Starting as a child we need to adjust to the different spaces that we are put in. We go from a crib to a toddler bed to a twin bed. We adjust to sharing our bedroom spaces to having a space of our own. When we go on to college we often have to adjust to once again sharing out space with others in dorm rooms or shared housing. Fro some people this is not an issue, but for others it is a difficult transition. When we marry or move in with our partner we need to adjust to them. My mother is going through one of the hardest adjustments that we need to make in life. She is adjusting to not only being alone after fifty-one years of marriage, but also moving to a much smaller space.
After my father died it became obvious that my mother could not take care of the five-bedroom farmhouse that she and dad had shared for over forty years. The house was large and old and she was not safe trying to go up and down stairs to do laundry and to get to the upstairs bedroom area. We considered remodeling the house, but we were also concerned about her living out in the country by herself with a large yard and the need for snow removal services in the winter. She agreed to move into a senior high rise building in the small town that was located close to the farm. Moving from a five-bedroom house in the country to a one-bedroom apartment in town was quite an undertaking. She needed to get rid of many belongings. My mother loved being outdoors so the biggest thing for her to get used to was opening her door and being in a hallway. We wanted to give her some reminders of being of the farm so we bought window bird feeders for her to have in the living room and bedroom. She had always fed the birds at home so this was something that she could still enjoy.
The window bird feeders were shaped like a small house. They are made of clear plastic so they are lightweight and they suction cup to the windows. The roof of the house keeps the seeds dry. At first we were concerned that the window bird feeders would not stay on the windows, but the instructions that came with them worked. We were instructed to clean the space on the window where the suction cup would be with rubbing alcohol. We then put a very thin layer of vegetable oil on the suction cup and stuck it on the window. The suction cup fit very firmly. We filled the dishes with food and within a day the birds were coming to eat. We kept the bag of food in the closet and each time someone visited we would put more in the feeders. Mom gets a great deal of enjoyment watching the birds come to her window bird feeders.

Windows Cleaners
Cleaning the home is never a simple task but there are many products designed to make the process much easier. One of the most difficult aspects of house cleaning is windows. However, if you find the right window cleaners to do the job, you will find that this is one of the most rewarding jobs there is.
Dirty glass is an eyesore and there is nothing you can really do to hide the grime on this most unforgiving surface. The right window cleaners will leave your glass shining and clear. In some cases, the glass will look invisible, as promised by some trendy commercials that you come across on the television.
So how do you determine which window cleaners will work? To be honest, there are just too many options to choose just one. There are plenty of products that will do the job fine. Others do the job well and a handful of cleaning products for glass that really leave things gleaming with pride. Finding window cleaners for your home is a process.
Part of the process is figuring out what your preferences are. I personally like to use a squeegee for my windows. I am guaranteed a streak-free shine that is truly rewarding to see. The tool is inexpensive and I find that it saves me a lot of time in the window washing task.
However, there are weekly touchups that are just too miniscule to bother with a window washing tool like a squeegee. Window cleaners that are designed for maintenance between springtime and fall cleaning come in many different forms. The ideal one for you depends on your personal preferences.
You can always make your own window cleaners. The ingredients that are commonly used for these concoctions are really inexpensive. Vinegar, water and a dash of soap is all that it takes to leave windows sparkling. This do-it-yourself approach is great but it isn’t always convenient.
Aerosol window cleaners are wonderful and they are great to work with for a few reasons. They leave foam on the glass that is easy to see so you know what spots you have covered and what needs attention in a glance. The aerosol foam also never runs.
While the aerosol products are terrific, nothing but the traditional blue spray will do for some of us. I love these window cleaners because they are easy to use, clean and I find that other products just don’t stand up to this kind of cleaner.

Wireless indoor out door Thermometers
Wireless indoor outdoor thermometers are great additions to the home. These items are helpful in providing useful information about the day’s weather forecast. You don’t need to consult the weatherman to get your daily reading. Wireless indoor outdoor thermometers are perfect for people who like to receive information first hand.
One of the most popular brands available is John Deere. This company has developed many different items over the years and it is well known for outstanding quality and enduring products. The wireless indoor outdoor thermometers developed by John Deere are truly top of the line.
I chose this particular product for my home and for camp as well. A cabin in the woods is a wonderful way to get back to nature. When we take a trip we don’t bring many electronics and television is definitely off the list of items to take along. However, my John Deere wireless indoor outdoor thermometer is always in tow.
This product was particularly appealing to me because I like to know what to expect when I go outside. Being prepared is very important especially when you are relatively far away from civilization. Information that we take for granted on a daily basis is extremely important when we are camping.
With the wireless indoor outdoor thermometers I can get a precise reading on the temperature both inside and outside of the cabin. In addition, I receive a weather forecast that covers the next 12 to 24 hours which comes in very handy when deciding what activities to choose for the day.
The unit runs on batteries and that is a convenience for me. There is no need to recharge the unit and I don’t have to worry about having an electrical outlet in order to get my daily readings. The only thing I have to remember is to keep a stock of batteries but the wireless indoor outdoor thermometer doesn’t seem to take up much juice.
One of the bet features on the wireless indoor outdoor thermometer is the clock. I have an accurate reading on the time as well. The unit also offers a great snooze alarm just in case I ever need it. While a watch is great, there are times when I just want to be free from wearing jewelry and camping is one of those times.
This product is a great item to have when camping but I use is everyday at home as well. I love that I can be dressed, ready and out the door without waiting for the daily forecast. The wireless indoor outdoor thermometer gives me all the information I need right when I need it.

Write A Book
The world of publishing is extremely difficult to get into. The writers that make a very good living, such as Stephen King or John Grisham are in the minority. It takes a best seller to enable you to give up the day job. I would like to write a book but I struggle to find the time. I guess I'll make time if I want it badly enough. More people than ever are buying books and it's very competitive. There are less independent publishers now and the big companies don't want to take too many risks on a new writer. They're not always smart about their choices either. J.K. Rowling was rejected several times.
I read sometimes about people who have sold their debut novel and been given a huge advance to write another one. Just when I'm fuming with jealousy, I hear that they sold the film rights for squillions of dollars! The most annoying thing is when a celebrity is commissioned to write a book, only to hire an anonymous ghostwriter. Sports personalities seem to do that a lot. They take all the credit and most of the money. English soccer star David Beckham even won a literary award for his so called effort at an autobiography.
The lucky writers are the ones that have a publisher really pushing them. A new writer needs tons of publicity after they write a book. Sometimes, the public is manipulated a little into buying a book. I have seen book covers with scantily clad ladies that I know has very little relevance to the plot.
So what are the books that sell well? Non-fiction subjects such as cookery, travel, home improvement and gardening are always in demand. Unfortunately, I don't feel equipped to write a book on any of those themes. I could try my hand at fiction but that seems a harder market to crack. The crime and thriller genre does well but I don't think I could come up with a clever, intricate plot. I'm more into novels about the human condition, which explore relationships and modern society. For a publisher to go with something like that from an unknown writer, it would have to be very, very good.
Sometimes, a great novel will come along that's critically acclaimed and a best seller. This just proves to me that the general public is underestimated and there is a demand for thoughtful stories. Publishers, like TV networks and film producers should stop dumbing down.

Writer Market
I began my writing career at the age of 12. Okay, so you caught me. I wasn't exactly getting paid back then for my witty banter and sarcastic diatribes. However, I was doing what every determined writer should do, and that's honing my skills. Writing, like every other field is about hard work. You have to practice and learn more in order to get better and hopefully succeed. This goes without saying. It's a process we learn at a very young age and it applies to everything we do. Now, what about the writer market? This is an ever-changing business. Take the Internet for example. The web has completely revolutionized writing as we once knew it. It's no longer about scribbling on notepads and punching away at typewriter keys. These days it's all about software and Internet access.
I had a professor in college, who told me something rather discouraging. He was teaching a writing course, and one day he just blurted it out. "There are two ways you can make money as a writer now days; one is by writing fiction and the other is films." This was such a bleak statement. Could it be true? What about journalists, poets and those who live to craft short stories? Well, I spoke with the professor after class, and he explained this statement with a bit more detail. He was basically saying that the short story and poetry folks are a thing of the past. And that these days it's all about fiction novels and films. These are the writers that make the big bucks. I have to admit, this sounded like reality. Anyway, one thing we did not discuss in that writing course is the online writer market. This is pretty massive now days. If you have a computer and Internet access, the online writer market is something you should consider. Of course that is, if you're searching for a career in writing. The web can introduce you to a number of freelance writing gigs. I am sometimes flabbergasted at how much writing goes straight to cyberspace. Imagine all the articles and medical essays available online. It's a gargantuan business.
Like any career field, the writer market can be discouraging and difficult at times. There is a lot of competition, but what field lacks competition? It's the same regardless of your specialty. One thing I can say is if you search the contemporary writer market for jobs, you will find some. Acquiring the gig is up to you.

Write Short Stories
Do you like to write? This hobby soon became my passion in college. I actually started to enjoy some of the pieces I was able to write on film. This is the key with writing and everything else in life. Finding the aspect that suits your interests. If you can do that, you will have discovered something special. Soon enough I was taking screenwriting courses and understanding more about the differences between how to construct a screenplay, develop a novel, and write short stories. All can be different and unique in the world of writing. Contrary to what you may have thought, writing fiction is certainly not the same as crafting a script for the big screen. What is your personal forte?
I write short stories sometimes for mere enjoyment. I can read them to my daughter and she absolutely loves them. I personally prefer to write short stories in the horror and/suspense genre. This always keeps my little girl on the edge of her seat. She can never wait for me to finish the story. Do you ever write short stories? I think this is a wonderful place to begin a writing hobby or career. Now, on the other hand, I definitely prefer to craft screenplays. This is a much more "involved" process if you ask me. When you write and develop your script, you have to write in a different fashion. For example, if you like to write short stories, then you are basically a fiction writer, or I am assuming anyway. I guess you could be constructing stories based on true events; however, I doubt it. Now, when you craft a script, you are only writing what spectators will see on the big screen. You never want to get inside a character's head. This is a major no-no. If they can't see or hear it on the screen, then you should not be writing it. This is why fiction writing is completely different. Stephen King can say whatever he wants, whether it's a thought or memory. It really doesn't matter with fiction because you're the one reading it. Chances are you won't have a copy of the script handy when viewing a film.
So, are you interested in fiction, screenwriting, or maybe wish to write short stories yet? This is wonderful if your answer is yes. There are a number of great books available now days that can seriously aid you in this process. Get online and you will discover exactly what I mean. Whether your desire is to write short stories or an entire novel, you can get the job done right.

Writing an Ebook
I've been making a fantastic living through online ventures for the past five years or so, and I'm completely convinced that with my help and guidance, others will be able to do the same thing. I'm sure that people would pay good money to learn my secrets, so that's why I'm thinking about writing an ebook to sell on my websites. The only problem is, I've never done this sort of thing before, and don't really know where to start.
From talking to other online entrepreneurs, there are several things that I need to take into consideration before writing an ebook. For example, it's important that I guard my ebook from theft or illegal reproduction. I can do this by purchasing a protection program, issuing passwords to unlock the book only after payment is received, or by using Digital Rights Management. These steps will ensure that the ebook can't be copied or traded very easily.
I also learned that there's a definite formula to writing an ebook, and that once I get the basic feel for how to do it, the entire creation process will become a lot easier. Savvy marketers have discovered that there's an ideal length for ebooks, that the margins should be a certain width, and that there should be plenty of white space on each page so the reader doesn't get intimidated at the prospect of taking in too much information. There are even pricing guidelines out there to help me decide how much to sell my finished product for! I never could have figured these things out for myself, so I feel like I'm making good progress already.
At this point, I think it would probably be best for me to purchase some special software that will allow me to take a step-by-step approach to writing an ebook. I've seen several of these types of programs advertised online, and have even checked out some of their features. It seems that the prices are pretty good for what the software delivers, so I should probably place my order soon. After all, the sooner I finish my book, the sooner I can start making money from it!
I'm excited about the prospect of writing an ebook, but I definitely need more information before I can begin in earnest. I'm going to devote the next couple of days to research, and will hopefully be in a better position to evaluate where I stand after that.

Writing Strategies
Reading a good book is incomparable to watching a film or television program. Yeah, yeah, I know what you're thinking. This is a pretty big and bold statement. I'm certain that many agree with me completely, while others are thinking HUH. Well, it's like this; when you watch a TV show or a movie, everything is happening right before your eyes. Not a great deal of imagination is required, because it's all in your face with pictures and sound. However, if you read a book, much is left up to you. The narrative, voice of each character, developing mental images and so forth. The story tends to be visualized in your mind. Therefore you can make it as spooky, gory, and thrilling as you like. The mystery regarding not physically seeing it has this effect on us. Our minds/imaginations go all over the place. Great writers know this. And that's why they develop awesome writing strategies in executing their books.
When I think of writing, I commonly ponder screenplays. These are what I read and write. Unlike books, scripts only say what's revealed on the screen. You can never get into the mind of a character. You must stick with what can be seen and heard. Obviously this makes the writing strategies of a fiction writer different from those of a screenwriter. They are two separate entities. Just because you write one well, doesn't mean you can write the other. Now, what about writing strategies in general? What makes stories and dialog float out of some people and not out of others? Hmm, this is a bit tricky. However, I wonder if a few of my writing strategies would help clear things up. First of all, I like to be alone in a quiet place. This allows you to really delve into a story. You almost become part of it on another realm, so to speak. My emotions literally change as the story progresses and I feel what the characters feel. Secondly, I feel one of the best writing strategies comes from your personal experience with life. Use things that have actually happened, or steal ideas from events in your real life. This is your best material. Trust me! And finally, just go with it. There's no need to sit and dwell on something. If you don't have the answer, come back to it.
Okay, so there it is. We all want effective writing strategies to get the job done with ease. Now, there is one last thing to remember. You may not be a superb writer, but that doesn't mean you're not a great re-writer. Drafts are the key to excellence! DON'T forget this!

Do I Need A Selective Or A Non-Selective Weed Killer?
If you've got an unsightly weed problem or are having difficulties with unwanted vegetation growth in you household garden then weed killer is the obvious way to get rid of this. There's loads of different companies who make weed killer and it comes in lots of different forms so how do you know what to get and are they all the same? Well the answer is no. The main difference is that some weed killer is selective and some is non-selective and the difference is very important.
If you're an enthusiastic amateur gardener or spend a lot of time making your home garden look nice and tidy then you probably already know the difference between selective and non-selective weed killer. However, if you aren't a gardener but have a weed problem that needs taking care of then it is definitely worth ensuring you know the difference, are using the right product and are taking the correct action, failure to do so could seriously damage your garden.
Non-selective means that the weed killer is likely to contain the chemical Glyphosate or a similar version of it and this chemical kills all greenery that it is sprayed on. This means not only weeds but also any other garden growth such as grass, plants and flowers. Spraying a Glyphosate based product on your lawn to get rid of a few lawn weeds will mean that the entire lawn will be ruined. Even a small amount is likely to kill all greenery it touches so be careful if you are spraying it in windy conditions as this can lead to it spreading from unwanted growth to pant life that you want to keep. Only apply it to items that you want to kill. Most gardeners use non-selective weed killer as it is the more powerful than its selective counterpart and is also cheaper. Selective weed killer does not contain Glyphosate has been developed to just kill weeds and not other plant life such as grass and flowers. If you have lawn weeds and are worried about using a product that also killsgrass then you can use a selective weed killer. The same principals apply if you have some garden weeds in your flower beds and don't want to risk killing your flowers.
