The celebrations, set to take place on December 31, will for the first time have fireworks displays that are computer designed, the Daily Telegraph reported.
And organisers of the Harbour festivities promise it will be bigger than New York, Paris or Berlin.
Central to this year’s show will be a 36sqm layered light platform installed on the side of the Bridge, which will beam out during the 12-minute midnight display.
One man who will be a keen observer is Fortunato Foti, the fireworks director. In charge for the past 11 years, he said this year will have never-before-seen pyrotechnics, a year in development.
ELFIN EASY CHEESECAKE
Requirements:1 graham cracker crust, extra serving
8 oz. soft cream cheese
1/3 c. sugar
1 c. sour cream
2 tsp. vanilla
8 oz. Cool Whip, slightly thawed
Procedure:Beat cream cheese until smooth, beat in sugar. Add vanilla and sour cream. Mix well. Fold in Cool Whip. Spoon into crust and chill 4 hours.
GERMAN SMEARCASE CAKE
--CAKE--1 stick butter
3/4 c. sugar
2 eggs
2 c. sifted flour
2 tsp. baking powder
Salt
--FILLING--1 sm. box pudding mix
1 lb. cottage cheese
2 tbsp. sugar
2 eggs, separated and beaten
2 tsp. cornstarch
1/2 raisin
Cinnamon as desired
Cake:Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs, pinch salt and mix. Add flour, baking powder. Mix. Press dough into greased 10 inch pan with remove all sides. Filling: Cook pudding as directed on package. In bowl combine sugar and beaten yolks. Beat egg whites until stiff add to cheese. Add pudding to cheese mixture. Slowly mix cornstarch and raisins and add. Spread over dough and sprinkle with cinnamon. Set on bottom of oven or lower rack. Bake at 400 degrees for 50 to 60 minutes. Recipe comes from Germany and cooked on oven
bottom.
CHEESE CAKE
Requirements:1 box graham cracker crumbs.
Make 1 1/2 recipe for graham cracker crust and chill in tube pan. (10" spring pan). Press thin in corners. 3 lg. pkg. (8 oz.) cream cheese, softened
1 1/2 c. granulated sugar, blend until fluffy
4 eggs, add one at a time
1 tsp. vanilla
Procedure:Mix well. Pour into crust. Bake at 350 degrees for 50 minutes or until firm in center. Let stand 15 minutes out of oven. Meanwhile, turn up oven to 450 degrees. Mix 2 cups sour cream, 1/2 cup sugar, 2 tsp. vanilla. Mix well, spoon over cake and return to oven for 10 minutes. Cool.
NEW YORK CHEESECAKE
Requirements:1 1/2 c. cinnamon, graham cracker
crumbs
1/3 c. margarine, melted
3 1/4 pkg. 8 oz. cream cheese,
softened
1 can 14 oz. sweetened condensed milk
2 eggs
2 tsp. vanilla extract
Procedure:
Preheat oven to 300 degrees. Combine graham cracker crumbs and margarine; press evenly on bottom of 9 inch pie pan. In large mixer bowl, beat cream cheese until fluffy. Gradually add sweetened condensed milk, beating until smooth. Add eggs and vanilla, mix well. Pour into prepared pie pan. Bake 1 hour. Turn off oven, allow to cool in oven 1 hour. Remove from oven, refrigerate, serve chilled.
CHOCOLATE ALMOND CHEESECAKE
Requirements:1 1/2 c. choc. wafer crumbs
1 c. blanched almonds, toasted and
chopped
1/3 c. sugar
6 tbsp. butter softened
1 1/2 lbs. cream cheese, softened
1 c. sugar
4 eggs
1/3 c. heavy cream
Procedure:Combine first 4 ingredients and pat into 9 1/2 inch spring form pan. Cream the cream cheese and sugar and eggs and add heavy cream, amaretto, vanilla and beat until light. Pour batter into crust and bake at 375 degrees for 30 minutes. Transfer to rack and let stand for 5 minutes. Combine sour cream, sugar, and vanilla and spread on cake and bake 5 minutes more. Transfer to rack and cool completely then chill.

1/2 stick margarineRequirements:
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 c. milk
2 c. flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt, opt.
--TOPPING--1/2 stick margarine
1/2 c. white sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon
ProcedureCream margarine and sugar, add eggs 1 at a time. Beat well combine flour,
baking powder and salt. Add milk alternately with flour. Stirring well after
each addition spread in greased pan. 9 x 13 inch pan or 10 x 15 x 1 cookie
pan. Melt margarine and pour over batter. Sprinkle sugar and spices over cake.
Bake at 350 degrees.

NYC sanitation workers destroy a Ford Expediton
First, we'd like to go on the record as saying that we appreciate the people who keep our streets clean as much as the next guy. But let's face it: working for a sanitation department doesn't always require a finely honed intellect. Still, the incident caught in this video footage sinks to new lows.
With storms ravaging New York City and its surrounding areas, one rather large front-end loader somehow managed to get stuck in the snow and had to be pulled out by a tow truck, so city workers got to it. Just one problem: it was on a city street in between parked cars. But as you can see from the video, that didn't seem to concern the sanitation department personnel on the scene, to the unfortunate destruction of one snow-covered Ford Explorer parked adjacent. 64GB iPhone and 128GB iPod Touch to hit early next year
Toshiba revealed recently their 64GB embedded NAND flash memory module and being optimistic wishing for Apple's 64GB iPhone and 128GB iPod Touch to come early next year is not a bad idea. This new memory module will hold 64GB on a single chip and dated to start mass production by first quarter next year.
If we will be following what happen last year when Toshiba announced the 32GB NAND flash modules that obviously ended up in the latest iPhone alteration. The main reason why there is only a 32GB iPhone which is half the size of a the largest version of iTouch (64GB), the iPhone can only house a single chip due to its communication components while the iTouch can hold up to two NAND flash.
However we can’t still set to this as we see this may be part of the next generation iPhone and iPod Touch revision that goes sometimes along June next year. Still I wish Apple may push this upgrades as soon as possible to house our overflowing media files.

HTC Desire HD gets Android 2.2.1 update, improved HD recording
There's an update out for the HTC Desire HD but it's not the major update to Android 2.3 Gingerbread you might have hoped for. It's a tweak and bugfix update that bumps the Desire HD to Android 2.2.1, which reportedly brings improved performance too.
It's an Over The Air update weighing in at 40MB. It will update the HTC Desire HD to software version 1.72.405.3 and the Android version to 2.2.1, the latest available Froyo. Aside from fixing some bugs, the Desire HD is reported to run a little faster overall after the update.
The camera shows a much more noticeable improvement. It's now snappier and the HD recording has reportedly been improved as well.
There's not a peep from HTC about when the HTC Desire HD and their other droids will receive the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update though. That might take a while as HTC will have to port all sorts of custom goodies (including the extensive Sense UI, the fast boot magic, etc) to the latest version of Android OS.

Sony Ericsson X10 mini pro successor is a real beast
The ultra compact smartphone niche has obviously brought enough cash to Sony Ericsson as it is just about to release a successor to their X10 mini pro. The new device is yet unnamed (though X12 mini pro seems like a reasonable guess), but seems to fix all there was to fix about its predecessor.
With a slightly larger 3" screen of higher resolution and far more computing power, the new tiny QWERTY-equipped device seems to be to the rumored X12, exactly what the X10 mini pro was to the X10. The keyboard is not actually visible on the leaked shots, but the Chinese source assures us that it's there.

Phone 5G to feature 8MP camera from Sony
“Apple has picked Sony's 8-megapixel camera chip for the 2011 iPhone, according to supply and manufacturing sources, said Rodman Renshaw analyst Ashok Kumar.”
Currently the iPhone’s camera is from OmniVision hint that the 5MP camera will come from them too. Knowing Sony’s phones mounted by their camera modules boast high quality captured images then I must say it’s not a bad choice. Along the way the 2011 maybe time for 4G networks so possibly we can have an iPhone 5G with 4G support.
In the end, it’s too early to tell for 2011 iteration of the iPhone, let’s just see what Apple has stored for us this summer, mainly the iPhone HD and iPhone OS 4.
Privacy leaks hit Facebook, Google, AT&T
AT&T's Web site leaked the e-mail addresses of about 114,000 iPad owners. A browser extension was discovered to leak your Web history to Amazon.com, and if you didn't configure it properly, Google Buzz initially could leak your correspondents' identities.
YouPorn was sued for allegedly taking advantage of a privacy leak that revealed what Web sites had been visited. The leak of Gawker's user database led LinkedIn to disable passwords of users whose e-mail addresses appeared in the file. The discovery that Facebook leaked some user data to advertisers, prompting embarrassing questions from Congress, didn't stop CEO Mark Zuckerberg from being named Time magazine's person of the year.
Google responded to privacy concerns by allowing encrypted Web searches. Congress' response was less successful: Rep. Rick Boucher, a Virginia Democrat, announced widely panned privacy legislation and lost his bid for re-election a few months later. Democrat Bobby Rush's proposal was no more successful. And after over a decade of discussing the topic, U.S. senators couldn't even begin to agree on what kind of new privacy laws are needed. Politicians also failed to advance a proposal backed by Google, Microsoft, and AT&T to update a 1986 law to protect cloud computing privacy.
The Federal Trade Commission decided a "Do Not Track" mechanism for the Web would be nice, but stopped short of saying it should be mandated by law. Not to be left out, the Commerce Department released its own report two weeks later, which took a small step toward endorsing new federal laws regulating companies' data collection practices and requiring that customers be notified of data breaches. Google's congressional critics called for an FTC investigation of its accidental interception of Wi-Fi data, which did not result in a fine.
Concerns over privacy leaks motivated criticism of the federal government, which admitted that full-body scans of Americans entering a federal courthouse were being permanently recorded, prompting worries that would happen with scanners at airports. The Transportation Security Agency denied it, but leaked internal documents showed machines could be configured to do so. Something akin to a national furor, complete with congressional condemnation and an appearance on the Colbert Report, arose after the TSA said travelers at certain airports would be given the choice of scanners or a police-style pat down with what became known as "genital probing."
The biggest leaks of the year, of course, came from WikiLeaks and its impenitent spokesman Julian Assange. WikiLeaks started with the leak of a video shot by an Apache helicopter, continued with the release of hundreds of thousands of U.S. military files related to Afghanistan and Iraq, and achieved international fame and notoriety with last month's slow-motion release of internal State Department cables. While Washington officialdom has been publicly fuming, complete with calls for Assange to be charged with espionage, the cypherpunk-turned-self-described journalist has been holding press conferences in London while fending off an unrelated extradition attempt from Sweden.

1. The Lunar Orbiter Laser Altimeter, one of seven scientific instruments onboard the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter spacecraft, recently completed a project resulting in a new map of the surface of moon with unprecedented detail.
Developed at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center and launched in June 2009, the Lunar Orbiter Laser Altimeter (LOLA) uses laser ranging to measure the moon's surface elevation, slope, and roughness in 3D. The primary objective was to produce a global geodetic grid for the moon to which all other observations could be geodetically referenced, NASA said.
Here, the most recent LOLA digital elevation map, which was compiled in late 2009 (right) is compared to the previous moon mapping achieved by the Unified Lunar Control Network in 2005. Notice the vastly improved detail of the moon measurements.

The lens is designed not to maintain a specific image quality, but rather to collect the maximum number of photons with the fewest possible losses, and to minimize the background radiation, which might interrupt precise measurements.

LOLA's multibeam 50-point pattern projected onto the lunar surface provides five measurements in an X-pattern from which the slopes can be derived.

Launched on June 18, 2009, the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter, carrying LOLA, is the first mission to the moon in more than 10 years.
As the inaugural spacecraft of the United States' "Vision for Space Exploration," the LRO will collect information that will be used in the next generation of NASA's space discoveries.
